We have physiotherapists working in a number of specialities across the trust, from orthopaedics to intensive care. We work to rehabilitate our patients recovering from elective surgery, emergency surgery and a variety of other medical problems leading to hospitalisation.
Each area is headed by an experienced physiotherapist who is responsible for co-ordinating a team of more junior physiotherapists and physiotherapy assistants. The teams work independently in their respective clinical areas as well as with each other to ensure knowledge and skills are shared so optimum care is provided to all patients.
Through Physiotherapy we helps restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. Physiotherapists help people affected by injury, illness or disability through movement and exercise, manual therapy, education and advice. They help people of all ages maintain health, helping patients to manage pain and prevent disease. We help to encourage people to progress and facilitate their recovery, enabling people to stay in work while helping them to remain independent for as long as possible. Physiotherapy takes a ‘whole person’ approach to health and wellbeing, which includes the patient’s general lifestyle. At the core is the patient’s involvement in their own care, through education, awareness, empowerment and participation in their treatment.

A stress test can determine if you have heart disease. A doctor or trained technician performs the test. He’ll learn how much your heart can manage before an abnormal rhythm starts or blood flow to your heart muscle drops.
It lets your doctor know how your heart responds to being pushed. You’ll walk on a treadmill or pedal a stationary bike. It’ll get more difficult as you go. Your electrocardiogram, heart rate, and blood pressure will be tracked throughout.
You will begin to exercise by walking on a treadmill or pedalling a stationary bicycle. The rate of exercise or degree of difficulty will gradually increase. You will be asked to exercise until you feel exhausted. If medication is used, or it is a nuclear stress test, an IV will be inserted in your arm in order to have the medication administered.
